Betrayal
By Rich Reith
The passion that their hearts once shared
vanished the day her body was bared
to a characterless man who required only
to exploit a woman desperately lonely.
Now where she is, what she wants to be
Remains to him a mystery.
He wanted no charity, it brought no joy -
Lovemaking used as love's decoy
His love was blind, his heart was just,
Love comprehends nothing of filth and lust,
Of womanhood wasted because "love" he'd mumble -
Sent loves reality into a tortured tumble..
So they watch the world through different eyes
One sees truth, one her own lies,
And all he feels is an aching cold
There is nothing left for him to hold
Life til now was simply defeat,
Faithfulness betrayed by deceit.
Slogging through their carnal shadow
Facing misery's very marrow
Where do they go? He knows not where
His heart is aggrieved beyond repair
Knives in his heart tore his very soul
Lifeblood seeping down the bottomless hole.
How could the one with which his world was built
In lust, cherish evil with no hint of guilt?
Losing understanding of intimacy,
the beauty of lovemaking with legitimacy?
He wishes, in truth, she had set him free
Exposing her betrayal truthfully
Telling him then, she'd never care
If dreams came true,
If God answered prayer.
Her whoremonger won't know the dues he's paid
In currency of dreams killed and made.
And all the lies they told to him
Forcing him into lifes tailspin.
To make him feel pain of infidelity,
Make him suffer and live this agony
