To My New Granddaughter
By Rich Reith
Andrea, your slumber brings heaven to earth
As I watch your chest gently fall and rise
Silently, my hand softly brushes away
A hair from your face, a tear from your eye.
I gaze in awe. The perfection that’s you
Brings insight to God,
The wonder of life,
Peace that seeing life’s continuity brings,
Joy in love's product of my son and his wife.
May I have this moment forever in time,
To ponder the lessons God shows in your face?
Of the innocence, trusting, honesty pure
Given us all, yet we refuse to embrace?
Take it slowly, sweet baby, there is no haste,
The sands of time fall too quickly, you’ll learn.
Every day that passes cannot be replaced,
Cherish each moment, they’ll never return.
